(CDC,2024)<\/p><p>Desde el nacimiento, los ni\u00f1os con S\u00edndrome de Down pueden mostrar caracter\u00edsticas f\u00edsicas particulares y retrasos en el desarrollo, incluyendo dificultades para alimentarse de forma aut\u00f3noma, y en la capacidad de succionar, masticar o tragar alimentos y pasar de l\u00edquidos o alimentos blandos a s\u00f3lidos, lo cual puede afectar su nutrici\u00f3n y desarrollo integral. Estas dificultades pueden verse acompa\u00f1adas de problemas conductuales como ansiedad, estr\u00e9s o rechazo hacia ciertos alimentos, lo que refuerza la importancia de brindar apoyo especializado desde las primeras etapas de vida (CDC, 2024) (DOWN Espa\u00f1a, 2013).<\/p><p>Otro de los mayores retos nutricionales en esta poblaci\u00f3n es la tendencia a desarrollar sobrepeso u obesidad. Hay diversos factores que contribuyen a este riesgo, como el bajo gasto energ\u00e9tico en reposo, niveles elevados de leptina, hipotiroidismo, malos h\u00e1bitos alimentarios y escasa actividad f\u00edsica. Adem\u00e1s, existen otras condiciones asociadas como resistencia a la insulina, intolerancia a los carbohidratos, diabetes tipo 2, estre\u00f1imiento y alteraciones en el perfil lip\u00eddico (Nordstrom et\u00a0al., 2020).<\/p><p>Por ello, es fundamental que la alimentaci\u00f3n, desde el momento en que el ni\u00f1o comienza a consumir leche materna, se convierta en una experiencia positiva, placentera y libre de tensiones. Fomentar la autonom\u00eda desde edades tempranas no solo favorece el desarrollo de habilidades motoras y sociales, sino que tambi\u00e9n mejora significativamente la calidad de vida. Adem\u00e1s, la alimentaci\u00f3n cumple un papel clave en la estimulaci\u00f3n de los m\u00fasculos orofaciales, los cuales son esenciales para el desarrollo del habla y el lenguaje (DOWN Espa\u00f1a, 2013).<\/p><p><strong>Recomendaciones nutricionales para ni\u00f1os con s\u00edndrome de Down <\/strong><strong>(Gruszka &amp; Wlodarek, 2024)<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>Frutas y vegetales:<\/strong> Incluir al menos 2 frutas y 3 vegetales al d\u00eda. Son fuentes importantes de fibra, antioxidantes y \u00e1cido f\u00f3lico, nutrientes esenciales para prevenir enfermedades cr\u00f3nicas como la diabetes, la obesidad y el estre\u00f1imiento.<\/li><li><strong>Cereales integrales:<\/strong> Preferir arroz integral, avena, pan y pastas integrales para aumentar la ingesta de fibra soluble, controlar los niveles de glucosa en sangre y reducir el colesterol.<\/li><li><strong>L\u00e1cteos:<\/strong> Consumir diariamente yogurt y leche, con el objetivo de prevenir deficiencias de calcio, un mineral esencial para el desarrollo \u00f3seo. La falta de calcio en ni\u00f1os con S\u00edndrome de Down puede aumentar el riesgo de padecer osteoporosis en etapas posteriores de la vida.<\/li><li><strong>Prote\u00ednas de calidad:<\/strong> Mantener un consumo moderado de carnes, ya que las personas con S\u00edndrome de Down tienden a consumir en exceso carnes rojas. Se recomienda variar las fuentes de prote\u00edna incluyendo otras opciones como pollo, pescado, huevo y queso.<\/li><li><strong>Grasas saludables:<\/strong> Preferir el uso de aceites vegetales, aguacate, nueces y semillas en lugar de grasas s\u00f3lidas de origen animal. Esto ayuda a prevenir enfermedades cardiovasculares y el exceso de peso.<\/li><li><strong>Az\u00facares simples:<\/strong> Limitar la ingesta a un m\u00e1ximo de 6 cucharaditas al d\u00eda. Se debe evitar el consumo frecuente de productos como confites, chocolates, donas, helados y golosinas en general.<\/li><li><strong>Micronutrientes esenciales:<\/strong> Asegurar una dieta rica en antioxidantes (vitaminas A, C y E), as\u00ed como en minerales como selenio y zinc. Tambi\u00e9n es importante el aporte adecuado de vitaminas del complejo B (especialmente B6 y B12), vitamina D y calcio, debido a las deficiencias comunes en esta poblaci\u00f3n. Estos nutrientes los podemos encontrar en alimentos como carnes, vegetales de hojas verdes, zanahoria, leche, huevo, semillas como nueces, almendras, leguminosas, queso, sardina, c\u00edtricos como naranja, mandarina, fresas, entre otras.<\/li><\/ul><p>Por lo tanto, la alimentaci\u00f3n en ni\u00f1os y ni\u00f1as con S\u00edndrome de Down se debe abordar de forma integral, considerando no solo sus necesidades nutricionales espec\u00edficas, sino tambi\u00e9n los desaf\u00edos f\u00edsicos, sensoriales y conductuales que pueden influir en su relaci\u00f3n con la comida. Promover h\u00e1bitos saludables desde etapas tempranas, favorece el desarrollo motor, cognitivo y emocional, asimismo ayuda a prevenir complicaciones como la obesidad y otras enfermedades cr\u00f3nicas no transmisibles.
